Hi James,
same results with hyperterminal.
my serial cable swaps 2 & 3 and 5 goes to 5. I have joined 1,4,6 and
7,8 on both ends.
I actually added xmodemf to a new romimage i created in vb.net.
Thanks,
Nik

The rom should contain xmodem.com, not xmodemf.com. The f version has a
shortened delay for faster downloads.
Drive B should contain:
B>dir
B: FORMAT COM : XMODEM COM : USTART COM : UREAD COM
B: README TXT : XMR COM
B>
For hyperterminal, baud rate 38400 and set the flow control to None.
Leave other settings as is.
Run Format
Then in drive B run
xmodem r mbasic.com
You should start getting a squiggly character every 10 secs or so which
is the nak coming back.
Then in hyperterminal, 'transfer' then select the protocol as xmodem and
send the file.
Also just to double check, what does the serial port look like? My PC
has a D9 male and the N8VEM has a D9 male, so I made a little crossover
that swaps 2 and 3, and on the PC side joins 1,4,6 and also joins 7,8.
The gnd 5 goes through. So the cable has 3 wires.

update.
- I have burnt a new rom with VB.NET which includes xmodemf.com but
still not able to transfer files.
- changed the uart to a W86C450. PC can still communicate with the
mini but unable to transfer files.
Regards,.

Hi James,
Well the RAM drive is okay. I was able to SAVE 123 test.txt and it is
listed in A>'s directory. I've tried Tera Term and Vbnet Ide to
transfer files by xmodem from the PC and get this message;
B>xmodem r
myfile.txt
XMODEM Ver
5.0V
Ready to
receive
^U^U^U^U^U^U^U^U^U++UNABLE TO RECEIVE BLOCK - ABORTING+
+
++INCOMPLETELY RECEIVED FILE DELETED++
I have used VBNET IDE successfully on the SBC but needed to have
xmodemf on the N8VEM for it to work.
I guess i could try another uart? I've changed the CPU to a 4MHz but
no change.

Nik

You could also try a different terminal program eg teraterm. Plus (from
memory here) I think hyperterminal has two options - 'send' and 'transfer'
and one of them doesn't work but I haven't got the program on this PC so I
can't describe exactly where that is).
The vb.net ide has some commented out code that puts delays in between
every byte sent and received and puts those bytes on the screen, so in a
worst case scenario you can take a minute to send 128 bytes and check
everything goes through.

Hi James,
Thanks. I can get into B> and run format. Xmodem starts on the mini
but hyperterminal gives up after 6 retries when using xmodem manual
transfer . Dir on Drive A: gave NO FILES.
I'll flip the battery tonight and do a format and try again. I'll
also check the SAVE command works and give vbnet ide a try also.
Thanks.

The 628512 and 684000 look the same pinout. pin 1-8 would be the same
as
0-7. Indeed if you are talking via hyperterminal then that means the
64k
CP/M uses must be working and that means the chip is ok.
Yes, try flipping the battery out with the power off then wait 10secs
then
put it back in again. Can you get into drive B>
Then run Format. Then go back to drive A and try DIR and it should come
back with 'no files'
Then go back to drive B and try 'xmodem r myfile.txt' and try sending
it a
file manually from within hyperterminal's xmodem.
Or send it from the vb.net ide.
There are some more tests if that doesn't work...

Hi James,
I'm not able to transfer files from the PC to the Mini. The serial
cable is wired as per the schematic and i can communicate with the PC
using Hyperterminal. The only thing i can think of is that the SRAM i
have is incompatible ? Futurlec sent me 628512 SRAM instead of
684000.The only difference i see is that the data I/O pins are
slightly different (offset by -1) ie. for the 68400 the pins are I/O 1
to I/O 8 whereas the 68512 pins are I/O 0 to I/O 7. Could this be the
problem? I have'nt tried to save anything to drive A: yet but i'll try
this tonight.
