The 628512 and 684000 look the same pinout. pin 1-8 would be the same as  
0-7. Indeed if you are talking via hyperterminal then that means the 64k  
CP/M uses must be working and that means the chip is ok.

Yes, try flipping the battery out with the power off then wait 10secs then  
put it back in again. Can you get into drive B>

Then run Format. Then go back to drive A and try DIR and it should come  
back with 'no files'

Then go back to drive B and try 'xmodem r myfile.txt' and try sending it a  
file manually from within hyperterminal's xmodem.

Or send it from the vb.net ide.

There are some more tests if that doesn't work...
