2PIO88 - Dual 24-bit Parallel I/O Interface

The ECB 2PIO88 board provides two 24-bit parallel I/O ports using the 82C55 parallel I/O chip. The interface connector is compatible with the PPIDE connector with additional power signals provided.

Overview

The ECB 2PIO88 board provides two 24-bit parallel I/O ports using the 82C55 PLCC. Two TTL-level headers are provided, configured to be compatible with the PPIDE interface (if the PPIDE is centered in the shrouded header).

The board was developed primarily for and tested with with the SBC-188 80C188-based processor board, but it should work with other boards. It's a general-purpose I/O board that doesn't require BIOS support.

Construcion Notes

The board assembled without issue. In future versions, the silkscreen associated with the address block jumpers might be revised. Suggested address assignments are the 0x10 block and anything specified for the N8 home computer (the use is mutually-exclusive; the board won't be used with the N8).

Errata

None so far. The board was constructed and tested fine.

Software
