According to the manual on your meter, it can read frequency to 5MHz.

What I didn't find is what setting the meter needs to be on to do that. It may be the AC setting.

One way to find out in a hurry if it can help you is to try and read the output of the crystal oscillator.

If you can see a frequency there, then it is at least good enough for assuring the clock path to the CPU.

There are cheap 8-channel logic analyzers from China. They are knockoff's of products from the
US. If you have the money, it would be better for you to buy the real thing, for instance www.saleae.com
has an 8 channel and a 16 channel analyzer. I have the 8 and it is great. I can't afford $300 for the 16-channel
model, but it is on my wish list.

Ok, I think buying a logic analyzer is the best way to debug my board. My (cheap china made) logic probe is useless, it won't read most pulse on pins of my board. My multimeter does read Mhz and I do get a reading on the oscillator but still I cannot see what is happening on the rest of the pins (MERQ, A0, ..).

So my only problem is that I don't have much of a budget for buying a (expensive) logic analyzer and I don't want to buy a cheap one on Ebay either. So I was browsing the internet to search for a logic analyzer within my budget and I did found this one (EU product): http://www.ikalogicstore.com/product.php?id_product=11 It only has 4 channels but I do find a lot of positive reviews about this analyzer on the internet. Is this device of any use to solve my problem? and debug my N8VEM board?

There are some other inexpensive USB-> Windows kind of logic analyzers around. Disco, and the LA5034
which is a 34 channel model, which is great (to have that many).
