Re: [N8VEM: 10682] Re: N8 - Troubleshooting

Neil,

Needing to use the Reset switch at power up indicates that your power supply may have a slightly longer ramp-up time than others.  I expect that was my problem until I discarded that old Apple power supply.

Yes - I have to manually reset it after power up. Now that I have

to do the same on my N8VEM. Seeing C1 in the reset circuit and not in
the list of decoupling caps lead to my confusion. Note that I'm using
a 5V 3AMP switcher for power using the Bornier4 connector (I didn't
install the 7805).

Neil,
Are you having any trouble with the power on RESET?  If a longer time constant is needed, C3 could be increased from 10uf to 22uf, 33uf, or even 47uf.  It is easy to try with an added cap in parallel.
I recall I had some trouble on the SBC v1, which had a much shorter RC time constant; and the solution was to add another cap. across what corresponds with C3 on the N8.  (The ultimate problem was my recycled Apple II  power supply.)
