I'm lousy at this. Such attempts degenerate into a furball of wire
eventually.

It's tempting to try to marry in a couple of PIOs, to see how zilog
family and
non-zilog chips play together. It should be ok, if there is a vector
from a "smart"
chip, it is used, else (of after those have been serviced) the default
FF is in effect.
