   That supply doesn't seem to have 5V as one of its settings.  Long term I think you want a
5V power supply for TTL logic chips.  That's what everything was designed for.

Ah cool thanks, Ill test the board tomorrow.

Unfortunately I don't  have any PC power supplies kicking around so was hoping to find a wall socket one instead.

Using Sergeys criteria  I've found this one on eBay which I think will work as long as I can get a Jack from mouser or somewhere. It seems that the plug I've used is an unusual size as all the supplies I've found are about 0.5 mm smaller/bigger.
