Friends,
I just wanted to warn those of you that use the Tortoise SVN Client on
windows
about a problem with their new updated version.
When you get to their web site to download the update, at the top of the
page is
a very inviting DOWNLOAD button.
Unless you look carefully (I didn't), you may miss the fact that you are
downloading
not the Tortoise update but rather a down-loader program.
When it dawned on me, I jumped to the conclusion that the down-loader
was part
of the process of downloading Tortoise.
In fact that may be, but when that down-loader began running, it not
only wanted to download
Tortoise, but also a number of other unexpected programs that you
probably don't need or want.
The first of these downloaded before I caught on. Even though I
cancelled the download , Genio
has installed and suddenly I was getting unwanted pop-ups on my screen
telling me about news
items and offering to sell me more software. I had to go into the
Windows control panel and
remove Genio by hand to get rid of this annoying behavior.
The moral of the story is as expected, Pay attention when you are on the
Tortoise download page
because the most obvious DOWNLOAD button is in an advertisement, not for
Tortoise. FYI
