Re: Xi 8088 - The improved version of my XT board
Hello Sergey
Thanks. I am more interested in the original "slowness" of PC/XT rather than getting high speeds. If it is really only slightly faster compared to original then I am in for it. I will definitely want an ISA backplane for ATX case too. That's wonderfull idea.

It will be slightly faster even on standard 4.77 MHz because SRAM
doesn't need to be refreshed, and so it saves some DMA cycles. But
other than that this board support turbo mode, so if you have fast
8088 or V20 CPU you can run it on higher frequency. I was able to run
it (the previous version) on 13.33MHz with V20HL CPU.
Not sure if they Acqutek sells boards to individuals (I would assume
so, why not :-). But if they don't there are a lot of other places to
find ISA backplanes. Or maybe even construct one yourself.
If it will be a demand for backplanes, I'll consider designing a Micro
ATX sized backplane with 6 slots or so (I have to check how many slots
it will fit). But I don't think it will be cheaper to make one than to
buy one (say $30 for the PCB, $1.5 for each ISA connector, few dollars
for other components, so about $45).
Thanks,
Sergey
