N8 2312 power consumption
HI all,
normally I use PC power supply. I wanted to make it easier, so I tried to use my N8_2312 with 7,5V/3A power supply but the 7805 is getting hot pretty fast with my standard cooler 12K/W. I tried to measure the power consumption and the input current on 7,5V power supply is about 930 mA which is quite a lot. It is quite logical than with power dissipation about 2,5W and cooler 12K/W it has to be hot. Before I put bigger cooler an maybe replace my 7805 with 78S05 I would like to ask if you experience similar power consumption or is there any fault on my board? I have everything fully populated. I have a small glued cooler on TMS9918 too.
I tried smaller configurations. Without the AY-3-8910 and TMS9918 the input current is around 670 mA. The both 82C55 consume only few mA, if I remove them both I got about 660 mA. With all back on board and only TMS9918 removed the input current is about 700 mA. That means the TMS9918 itself consumes 230 mA.
My Zeta power consumption is about 320 mA on 5V, but it is much smaller board.
Best regards
Martin
