Hi Norbert, formatting with PPIDETST is fine as long as you know the LBA range of the CP/M directory.  Wayne uses a different algorithm to map track/sector addresses to LBAs tha I do so my documentation will differ.  I wrote clrdir.com to use the bios definitions to determine where the directory is, so you didn't need to worry about that.  Clrdir will completely empty the directory whereas era *.* won't.  I would recommend that you use use clrdir to "format" the disk before you use it.
