RE: [N8VEM: 14379] Re: ParPortProp Almost Running

Hi Sergey,

thank you very much for your perfect work! My PPP is finished and working nice. I decided to use short 26-pin cable. It is more versatile solution. If I will want to change the configuration PPP could be quite useful on top of Zeta without FDD and if I can use the prototyping area. And the opposite, it is better to have PPP on the bottom when using FDD, as I do now.

I uploaded high resolution photos to "\Builder Photos\Martin Lukasek\Zeta and PPP".

I have few questions regarding serial ports. Is it possible to use serial port when using PPP to transfer files between Zeta and my computer? Is it possible to mirror display and serial terminal communication? Is there any use for serial port on PPP other than programming Propeller? Can I use serial on Zeta when using PPP?

Best regards

Martin

Martin,

You can do it either way - using cable or using a header and a socket.

If you will be using floppy, it makes sense to put PPP below Zeta, so floppy connector on Zeta will not be covered by PPP (you can do it other way around, but in this case a longer floppy cable will be needed, and its placement won't be as nice.

Since you already built your Zeta, using a very short cable might be a better solution for you. But if you're willing to unsolder parallel port connector on Zeta, you can put a socket (or a header) on the bottom site of Zeta PCB, and the opposite side of the connector on the PPP, so they will be stackable. The minimal distance between two boards in this case will be at least 13mm (that's the height of PS/2 connector), but most stackable rectangular connectors/headers have a height of 11mm - 12mm. So it will be some gap. I did some research on connectors available from Mouser, and it looks like the following connectors will work:
Mouser#	517-8526-4500PL (socket)
Mouser# 517-9612266804AR (header)
The assembled height of these two connectors should be about 14mm...

Best regards,
Sergey
