Re: [N8VEM: 7784] PCBs have arrived!

Dan,

I immediately noticed the same problem.  At first I thought the U1 socket was fatter than U12, the FDC socket, but then I noticed that the caps up around U12 have 50 mils more clearance.  I was able to put the 3 caps around U1 on the top of the board with some carefully bent leads.  If worse comes to worse they could be mounted on the bottom.  Since they decouple the CPU, in no case should they be left off.

Andrew & John,

Just a note for the next rev of the SBC-188:  C32, C29 & C30 are too close to U1.  Once the socket is in place for U1, they do not fit in very well.

Hi Sergio!  Thanks!  The ECB to Z80 socket shim will appear to be reversed at first glance. However the DIN 41612 connector pads on the PCB are meant for a female right angle or straight DIN 41612 which in turn would plug into the male DIN 41612 of an ECB board.  Compared to a regular ECB board the pads are all reversed somewhat like on an ECB backplane the pads are all reversed relative to an ECB board.  That way when the male and female connectors are mated the appropriate signals and voltages line up correctly.

This raises an excellent point though.  Please, PLEASE, double check any connections with a VOM *before* applying power or inserting any chips.  Thanks and have a nice day!

Hi , I have working with the ECB to z80 socket and I see that the power supply 5v is inverted .

Regards.

Sergio.

Very good notice ! Please I need 3 ECB to Z80 and 1 SD for SBC board .

Thanks !

Hi All!  Wow!  I am really behind again!

The good news is a bunch of PCBs have arrived.  First there are several mini-PCBs available I now have on hand.

1.  ECB to Z80 socket shim board

2.  Juha SD for SBC board

3.  PPIDE board to connect IDE drives or CF to the SBC parallel expansion port direct

4.  AT2XTKBD board used to connect an AT or PS/2 keyboard to an XT style computer

These PCBs are much smaller than the Eurocard boards and are really meant to augment existing systems.  Probably they could be used generally or by themselves but most builders will use them to add to their already working SBCs.  To keep things simple, all the miniboards are $5 plus shipping each.  Assuming I can use standard mailing envelopes and just tape the boards to a piece of cardboard shipping will be $1 in the US and $3 elsewhere.

Hopefully this is not too confusing as I’ve tried to keep the pricing model simple but these boards are less expensive than the regular Eurocard or S-100 boards.

If any builders are willing to do some demonstrations, take photos of them in working systems, add a webpage description on the N8VEM wiki etc, I would be glad to send a couple of each board out as “freebies”.  I much appreciate any and all help in the development of these boards.  They will be very helpful and useful to new builders!

Thanks and have a nice day!
