You can probably get away with the 574's for testing, at least.  Instead
of enabling with  ALE,  clock in with /ALE.

I switched to 573's trying to save an inverter on the final board; plus,
transparent latches get the addresses to the memory earlier.  With fast
(35ns) SRAM (Jameco's only) it probably doesn't matter a hair.  I'd switch
to the 573's when you get them.

Tonight and tomorrow night I plan on attempting to replicate your
modifications on my board.   Hopefully a second complete prototype will
help some.

Right now my prototype board has two problems:

        1.  The horizontal blanking is not quite in proper sync with the 299
video shift registers.  I have made one mod beyond the published changes
and have the out-of-sync down to 2 pixels.  I can live with this for a
while.

        2.  Most of the time video bit 15 is stuck at zero.  Note the tiny gaps
in the full screen diagonal from the upper left to the lower right.  Note
also the missing tic at the end of the middle horizontal line.  The
missing tic is on bit 15.  Also the gap in the Bresenham increments which
generate the slanted vertical line in the upper right.  That is supposed
to be one line; the middle segment is purposely on bit 15 (pixel 591),
which is definitely stuck at zero.

Right now the uPD7220 would seem to be exonerated, as two of them give
the same result.  I may have a zapped SRAM; or some other problem in the
data path.  I would just to compare results with another board.

        Oh my!

        A N8VEM can do that?!!!

Well, kudos and respect and well done!

My little project at the moment is to hack MPM so it can display multiple
windows  - one for each user. Getting close to a text version. But it
could be intriguing to think of a graphics version as well using this
board.

        Cheers, James

Woo Hoo!  Thanks John!  That's a wonderful image from the uPD7220 board!
Congratulations on the new code!  Hopefully some of the other builders can
replicate your progress and we can work on a new improved prototype board
with multiple bit planes for color.

Thanks and have a nice day!
