Suffixes at the end of the part numbers usually refer to the package
type and sometimes to the working temperature range. "N" means PDIP
package (PDIP = plastic dual in-line package) - for example, see
packaging information here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/sn74ls32.html.
For N8VEM boards you'll want to get DIP packages (some ICs may come in
ceramic DIP which are OK too). It's an important detail (since
probably you don't want to try to connect small-outline packages where
DIP package should go), so check seller's web site for that
information. In some cases they'll just put a generic part number
(like 74LS32) and then the package type.
