So, ROMWBW v3.0.1 claims to support the following video chips:
TMS9918, SY6545, MOS8563, HD6445
MOS8563 is nice and simple. It's like the TMS9918 in that it just needs address selection and some DRAM. It can do 640x240 bitmapped and decent color if you give it enough RAM. MOS8568 is MOS8563 with better video output, basically. Mostly I just want 80-columns on B/W composite video to one of my vintage green-screen 15 KHz monitors.

The ECB Color Video Display Unit exists as an example. Pretty much looks like the same idea but runs at VGA scan rate and has a bunch of I/O stuff I don't need. Am I on the right track here?
