To revive this topic a bit, while looking for something else in my shop, I found the N8 board I built years ago. I was trying to identify the version number, but the date code on the board is 3713 with a designation of "Home Computer VER 1", so it doesn't match any version (2312, 2511) available when I built it (maybe 2014). There are several clipped resistors on the front near the parallel port connector, and a bunch of resistors added on the rear -- an ECO of some sort which could identify the version.
I did update the ROM with the last one from the Wiki and it boots from the SD card just fine...so that's good. I also recall the ability to boot CP/M 2.2, but I don't remember how...there is a CP/M floppy in the box which leads me to believe that I got it working at one point. Any tips would be appreciated.
I also downloaded the RomWBW archive, but I haven't done anything with it yet.
Thanks!

Hi Rich,
Regarding RomWBW, it should work. The pre-built N8 ROM image expects a CSIO connected SD card slot. For the older boards, you should put the following line in your config file and build a new ROM.

Thanks Wayne.
FYI, I found a picture (maybe from the old wiki) of the 2312 board and it's the board I have, even though the date code is 3713. I didn't realize another run was made. Not sure why there were resistor mods on the parallel port on my board. The clue was "J20" right next to the CPU...the 2511 board didn't have it.
Separately, I did recompile it with the change in switch you recommended and it works on the 2312 board. I've tried the ROM and floppy and no hitches so far. I have not tried anything with the SD card. Yay!
