I have been working on a ROM-less 6502-based EPROM programmer on 6502.org that has reached some level of success. The discussion about that project is here: http://forum.6502.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6841

I'm documenting the design on retrobrewcomputers here:
https://www.retrobrewcomputers.org/doku.php?id=builderpages: plasmo:6502:prog65

My plan is revise the current pc board and release design files to public domain so anyone can build it. I will have limited number of spare pc boards to give away in few weeks.

This is the pc board version of Prog65. It has a different homepage at:
https://www.retrobrewcomputers.org/doku.php?id=builderpages: plasmo:6502:prog65:prog65r2:prog65r2home

Currently it can program SST39SF010 and SST39SF040. With a different program it should be able to program AT49F040. With an engineering change it can also program AT28C256. It is not meant to be a general purpose programmer; the ability to program the inexpensive SST39SF010/040 is really the intent of this hardware.

It has two mode of operation; with the switch "up" it is an EPROM programmer; with the switch "down" it will boot from the newly programmed EPROM. The screen capture shows a simple 4-function monitor that was programmed in the program mode and executing in normal mode.

This 4"x4" 2-layer board fits in the PacTec CM5-125 enclosure.
